BESTMIX FOOD supports Kathy Chocolaterie upon the renewal of their BRC-certificate
Kathy Chocolaterie has entrusted the management of their ingredients, recipes and product specifications to the BESTMIX FOOD software of ADIFO NV. The focus of this project is a correct follow-up and a reliable quality guarantee.

When you say chocolate truffle, you think of Belgium, when you say Kathy Chocolaterie, you think of Bruges.
The large and fine assortment of this prominent chocolate producer doesn’t only appeal to the home market, but seduces the whole world. The export of two thirds of the production is a good measurement of recognition.

Kathy Chocolaterie is a flourishing company with 150 employees, who produces for its own brand, but also for customers with a proper brand. This success is deep-routed in a long family tradition. Since 1919, the consecutive generations of the family Verheecke in Bruges have succeeded in linking their old-fashioned experience with modern production and distribution methods.
Certification
Last year, Mr Dirk Van Hulle, (QA manager) from Kathy Chocolaterie was looking for a professional software application to manage their ingredients, recipes and product specifications. Kathy Chocolaterie is an international company and has to reckon with several new statutory requirements such as declarations, allergens, portion sizes in order to get the wanted certificates (BRC, IFS, Auto control system,...).
Since 1989 Excel and Word have been used for this. The restrictions became a very big problem. The accuracy of data was difficult to guarantee and a lot of time was wasted in the management of data. Furthermore it was difficult for several users to use these data at the same time.
“Since the BESTMIX FOOD software has been introduced, it is possible to calculate the correct recipe information (composition, allergens, nutritional values,...) with the most recent ingredient data” says Mr Van Hulle. “During the whole development, recipes can be followed-up correctly. Different recipe versions can be compared very quickly. And modifications can be easily registered. Thanks to this tool, we can comply with the new statutory requirements very quickly.”
“BESTMIX FOOD has a user-friendly interface, which makes it very simple and effective to deal with the complexity of ingredients on different levels. It also offers the possibility to generate the documents very easily in different languages, which is of course very important for us. These documents can be used by our different departments (quality, production and sales). Within the whole company, 6 people already use BESTMIX FOOD”.
Implementation
In June 2006, the software for recipe optimization BESTMIX FOOD was implemented with Kathy Chocolaterie. Although it was possible to import automatically all data from Excel, all raw materials have been introduced manually in BESTMIX FOOD. “This was a very good opportunity to check thouroughly all supplier data” says Mr Van Hulle. After that, all recipes have been created and finally, after having created a template, the product specifications have been generated.
In September 2006 the system was ready for use and all calculations were done in BESTMIX Food With success, as in the beginning of November 2006, Kathy Chocolaterie renewed its BRC certificate.
