Adifo and Vista: Announcement by Reinhart De Lille - R&D manager
It has been some time since Microsoft Vista became available on the market.
Since then, Adifo has been testing its entire software portfolio on this new Microsoft Operating System.
Vista is available in several editions. Adifo supports only Home, Business and Ultimate Edition. Windows Vista Basic edition is not supported, since it is intended for home use and multimedia applications. Vista is available for PC’s only, not for servers.
In April 2007, the Windows Edition of BESTMIX® received the logo “Works with Windows VistaTM”.
This was achieved by having BESTMIX® tested in the labs of VeriTest, an independent software company allied to Microsoft and specialized in testing software.
VeriTest confirmed that BESTMIX® runs seamlessly on Windows Vista, following the specifications.

BESTMIX must be upgraded to version 3.08 or 3.09
SQL-Server must be upgraded to version 2005 Service Pack 2, since Microsoft does not support SQL-Server 2000 on Vista.

BESTMIX (DOS version) (= Niakwa / NPL Platform)
|
Niakwa, the supplier of the NPL-development tool has released Niakwa Runtime Revision 5.10.51, which ensures VIsta compliancy.
- a single user Windows version: Vista is now supported for single user workstation or laptop installations
- a multi user - Windows server-based version: Vista workstations are supported in this configuration, but the central runtime will require an upgrade to 5.10.51, even when running on Wondows 2003 server.
- a multi user – Unix / Linux server based - version: as in this case the application is not running in the local client, the actual Unix Niakwa will continue to work.Remark: it is required that the emulation application is compliant with Windows Vista.
Example: TinyTerm version 4.53 (or higher) is required.
Where possible, customers should upgrade to BESTMIX Windows 3.11, to ensure full compliancy and profit for productivity and Office integration improvements. Please contact your BESTMIX Consultant or our Helpdesk for more information.

NPL server products are only supported on Windows 2000/2003 Server platforms, SCO Unixware, SCO Openserver and in some limited case Suse Linux. Therefore, migrating your workstation to Vista should not influence the operation of your BESTMIX Application. TinyTerm users should upgrade to version 4.53 or higher.

Alaska Software, the supplier of the Xbase++ development tool has confirmed Vista Compliancy, starting from Windows Vista Service Pack 1.
The APROS applications are also using one of both listed database servers: - the Advantage Database Server(= ADS) : is used in multi-user environments starting from 3 users. As this software runs on the server, the Vista-compliancy is not an issue. Remark: when using the ADS is temporarily installed on a local PC with Vista (like for testing), version 8.10.02 (or higher) is required. - the Local Database Server (= LDS) : is used in a small multi-user environment or on a single user version and is always running on the local PC. Version 8.10.02 (or higher) of the Local Database Server is required on the local PC with Vista.
Note: all Alaska installed software on the hardware should be patched up to the latest version.

A new version of OOG was developed by Adifo, in order to be compliant with Windows Vista. The compliant version is 3.3 (or higher).
Remark: this version is also required for running Office 2007
Customers running Office 2007, using custom written Word or Excel macro’s, should contact Adifo to migrate their templates to Office 2007.

Special note: for the customers running webportals based on Adifo Technology, like Apros Varkenshandel, E-Order and E-Invoicing, it’s best to work out a strategy together with Adifo to inform and support your customers using your website. DISCLAIMER
Adifo has put a lot of effort in testing all it’s applications in the Windows Vista environment, according to testing guidelines of Microsoft itself. Nonetheless, since we can’t test every possible configuration of Vista, we cannot give full guarantees.
You might be running on your PC also 3rd party applications from other software vendors, it is best to contact these parties as well before migrating to Vista, or you can contact our System Engineering Department to assist you in the process.
